Strang Design Office - Open Space Series

Interior Architecture Photography
I photographed the Strang Design office in Winter Haven, Florida, a space with deep personal significance for architect Max Strang. This building was originally the studio of legendary Florida modernist Gene Leedy, a founding member of the Sarasota School of Architecture known for his innovative use of precast concrete and signature "double-tee" structural elements. The office represents a meaningful connection to the modernist design principles and the place where Max once worked early in his career under Leedy's mentorship.
My approach to this project focused on capturing the dialogue between Leedy's original modernist vision and the contemporary life of the workspace. I arrived early in the morning and was greeted by warm morning light that emphasized the expansive floor-to-ceiling glass walls that dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior, a hallmark of Florida modernist design. What stuck out to me the most was Leedy's use of what are typically crude construction materials (block and concrete) in a clean, precise style. The exposed precast concrete beams and double-tee ceiling structure create dramatic lines and shadows throughout the whole space. I wanted to showcase not just the architectural elements themselves, but how they create a functional, inspiring environment for creative work today.
