Elena Reygadas - Bon Appétit

I photographed chef Elena Reygadas for Bon Appétit magazine in Mexico City, capturing the mind behind Rosetta, one of Latin America's most celebrated restaurants. In 2023, she received the title of World's Best Female Chef, recognition of her role in reshaping how people think about Mexican cuisine through her focus on native ingredients and responsible sourcing.
What struck me most about this shoot was the contrast between Reygadas' quiet demeanor and her significant impact on the culinary world. She launched Rosetta in 2010, transforming a century-old mansion in the Roma Norte neighborhood into a dining destination that feels more like a friend's home than a formal restaurant. Plants fill the sun-drenched space creating an airy, yet warm atmosphere.
My approach focused on capturing the warmth and authenticity that runs through everything she does. I had the privilege of photographing her in Rosetta's and Panadería Rosetta's kitchens, which gave me a peek into her thoughtful and intentional process behind the scenes, the places where her ideas about food and hospitality take physical form. Watching her work, there's an ease and intention to her movements, and I wanted my images to reflect that same balance between careful craft and genuine welcome.
